ALTERNET has been a work in progress since 2011. Early on in 2000's we started to witness several historical web sites and FTP sites disappearing, so in 2011 a project was started to preserve as much as possible and build a system where the look and feel of the Internet would be preserved as closely as possible for historical accuracy and as a guide for future generations.

ALTERNET is a service that can be used with vintage computers, and allows users and interested parties to browse the Internet with classic web browsers, and experience the early Internet with accuracy.

ALTERNET may not contain an extensive archive like some other sites do, but over time the content that has been recovered from various sources has been restored in functionality with working dynamic content, many downloads have been made active, and the list goes on. It is a major undertaking, that is still a work in progress.
